ABSTRACT
The materials and chemistry used to manufacture hydraulic fracture µuids are often confusing and difžcult for a practicing hydraulic fracturing engineer to understand and optimize. Many times the failure of a particular fracturing treatment is blamed on the µuid because that is a major unknown from a design engineer’s viewpoint. Many of the components and processes used to manufacture the µuid are held proprietary by the service company that adds to the confusion and misunderstanding. In this chapter, an attempt is made to describe the components used in fracturing µuids at a level that a practicing frac engineer can understand and use.
