ABSTRACT

A survey was conducted in order to estimate the salinity - sodicity problem in soils of Halastra -Kalohori area, located in N. Greece. In this area, salt - affected soils have been formed, mainly because the area is located near the sea but also because of irrational use of irrigation water and insufficient drainage. The aim of this paper is to present the results of the soil monitoring in Halastra - Kalohori area during 2002 - 2004. The soils were characterized as salt - affected or normal using the values of the electrical conductivity of the saturation extract (ECe), the sodium absorption ratio (SAR) and pH.
