ABSTRACT

This paper is a preliminary work for the study of the unsteady flow in Pinios river. It focuses on the flood wave propagation in a section of Pinios river 46 kilometers long. This section starts from the stage gauge station close to Piniada village, where flow measurements eire available, and ends close to the town of Larissa, where the river flow is divided into the branches Giannouli and Alkazar. In this paper the flood wave propagation is studied by applying a mathematical hydrodynamic model developed on the basis of the Strelkoff s implicit finite difference computational scheme. The transformation of the inflow hydrograph along this particular reach of the river is studied at a flow depth. The discharge values are computed at different positions and times.
