ABSTRACT

This paper presents an analytical solution for the joint seed-dispersio n probability distribution function (i.e. probability mapping) based on the development of copulas, and assuming several mother-tree dispersal sources and mechanisms. Numerical solutions of such analytical expressions, together with some simulation-based examples are presented and compared. The definition of an analytical solution for seed-dispersion patterns from several mother-trees, assuming distinct dispersion mechanisms and regimes, provides a flexible framework to analyse seed recruitment dynamics. This clearly contrasts with empirical analysis of such dynamics due to the difficulty of obtaining seed dispersal data.
