ABSTRACT
Wood is a renewable resource, which is available in vast quantities. This combi nation is unusual compared to almost any other engineering and structural mate rial. Wood tissue is also created with pronounced variation, exhibiting many ex traordinary properties, such as high strength relative to weight, easiness to shape and machine, and unique aesthetic and tactile characteristics.
