Relationship between white disc visibility and the light attenuation index in the Black Sea V. I. Mankovsky and L. A. Zemlyanaya

Abs t rac t — The paper reports on the ratio between mean values of the light attenuation index e and the depth of Secchi disc visibility.

To obtain the relation in the form of i = A + B/ZS in situ optical data collected by the Marine Hydrophysical Institute researchers from 1977 through 1988 were statistically processed. The correlation coefficient in the derived relation £io(422) = 3.8/ZS — 0.05 equals 0.8 i 0.05 and the regressional error 0.075.
