ABSTRACT

Advanced atmospheric plasma processes exhibit an enormous technological potential to control adhesion to polymeric surfaces. In order to prevent the adhesion of microorganisms to polymer surfaces several approaches are possible: (1) surface modification, (2) renewable surfaces and (3) application of electric fields. These methods can be combined with innovative decontamination or sterilization processes at low temperatures. It has been demonstrated by numerous research groups that an efficient antimicrobial treatment is possible by means of low temperature plasma treatment [1, 2].
