ABSTRACT

The development of novel materials with specific affinities toward particular cell populations has an important basis in applied and basic biosciences [1, 2]. In particu lar, cell-specific materials can be applied for the separation of a particular cell popula tion from a mixture of other cell populations. The recovery of high purity cells with high viability can be utilized in cell biology, biotechnology, and medicine [3-5]. In response to growing demands for cell separation, novel materials having specific affinities toward particular cell populations have been developed, and advanced methods for cell separation utilizing these materials have been proposed [6, 7].
