ABSTRACT

Translational medicine (TM) provides the key bridge (Fig. 4.1)

between advances in basic bioscience to clinical medicine that

embraces better therapy and improved patient care. It encompasses

two primary spaces. First, translation of basic science into drug

development tools that can be utilized effectively within the

domain of clinical medicine. Second, translating basic science into

better understanding of disease etiology and progression, with

the objective of discovering, developing, and tailoring new and

safer therapeutic options and high-quality care for the individual

patient.
