ABSTRACT
Translational medicine and translational medicine research (TMR)
has been gaining increasing recognition over the past decade. It is
referred to directly in a number of funding programmes [1,2], and in
Scotland there has been a major public-private collaboration called
the Translational Medicine Research Initiative (https://www.tmri.
co.uk/). There are now courses and training programs in TMR,
and an Institute for Translational Medicine and Therapeutics at the
University of Pennsylvania (https://www.itmat.upenn.edu/).
