ABSTRACT
Medical practitioners who are summoned to the courts, criminal or civil, in order to assist with medical matters can therefore appear as expert witnesses. In criminal matters, their expertise is mainly required for the interpretation of traumatic changes and causes or modes of death; in civil cases, medical expertise is required for cases of alleged medical or industrial negligence and in litigation relating to compensation for injury and disability.
