ABSTRACT

Many outcome measures have been described for assessing the results of treatment of hand injuries and diseases. Some of these are general, and can be applied to any condition, whereas others are specific, such as those for assessing the results of tendon surgery and nerve repair. Most of the specific outcome measures are objective, whereas most of the general outcome measures are subjective and in the form of a questionnaire. This chapter will first consider the general outcome measures, and will then consider the specific ones. A summary of the outcome measures described can be found in Table 17.6 at the end of the chapter.
