ABSTRACT

What is personalized medicine? Personalized medicine as an ideal of treating each patient according to his or her personal characteristics (including but not limited to molecular characteristics) is far from reality, if it ever is to become reality. The paradigm shift toward such an ideal, however, is clearly under way. Evidence is pointing to personalized medicine as an ongoing and irreversible trend. What then, are the scientific activities that are performed today that will push us as an industry and as a society toward the future of personalized medicine?
