ABSTRACT

Carbon foam is a three-dimensional carbonaceous material. It has several applications such as porous electrodes, high-temperature insulators, filters and demisters, storage batteries, scaff olds, and acoustic control medium. It could be synthesized from various precursors such as phenol formaldehyde foam, urethane polymer, cork, and mesophase pitch. This chapter deals with the synthesis of carbon foam from sucrose, an agricultural product and its application as a radionuclide trap material for use in a sodiumcooled fast reactor.
