ABSTRACT

The skull can be divided into two parts: the cranium and the face. The cranium is composed of eight bones: one frontal, two parietal, two temporal, one occipital, the sphenoid and the ethmoid.

The pterion is the anatomical landmark where the sutures of the frontal, parietal, temporal and sphenoid bones all meet. It resembles the letter ‘H’. The two parietal bones are separated by the sagittal suture. The frontal bone meets both parietal bones at the coronal suture. The occipital bone meets the two parietal bones at the lambdoid suture.
