Epidemiology is the quantitative study of the distribution and determinants of health and disease in a population (1).
Analytic epidemiological studies typically involve four components: the definition of disease and identification of the ‘at risk’ population; the measurement of disease; the measurement of exposure and the examination of the association between disease and exposure.
