ABSTRACT

Thoracoscopic decortication is a minimally invasive way of obtaining early surgical debridement and drainage with minimal morbidity. Through two or three small incisions, the pleural space can be widely debrided and completely drained and all loculations can be broken down. Early intervention is encouraged, as the pleural peel is less fibrous and easier to debride. The decreased surgical morbidity and quicker overall recovery should encourage both the surgeon and the chest physician to intervene earlier rather than later.
