ABSTRACT

The birth of the laparoscopic revolution began in 1989 with the report by Reddick and Olsen of laparoscopic cholecystectomy in 25 patients. In that same year, Dubois et al. described the technique in 63 patients. The use of laparoscopy in children has had a more gradual acceptance; however, today, we see the technique being utilized by an ever-increasing number of pediatric surgeons. In just a few short years, laparoscopic cholecystectomy has become the preferred procedure for the removal of the gallbladder, not only in adults, but in children as well.
