ABSTRACT

Although minimally invasive colorectal techniques have been incorporated into the practice of adult general surgery since the mid-twentieth century, it was not until the early 1990s that advanced laparoscopic colorectal surgery was routinely performed. Over the last decade, pediatric surgeons have also minimized access for intestinal surgery, and currently laparoscopically assisted total colectomy and partial intestinal resections are being performed routinely in children.
