Posterolateral Bochdalek hernias may be approached through either the chest or the abdomen, depending on the preference of the surgeon. Supporters of the thoracoscopic route state that the herniated viscera are reduced easily with carbon dioxide insufflation.3,4 Those who support the laparoscopic approach state that the instruments are manipulated more easily and that the reduced viscera can be inspected easily for possible injury.5
