ABSTRACT

The impact of the NHS and Community Care Act (1990) has been wide and far-reaching for both clients and care workers. Yet little research has been carried out into the changes to the everyday working practices of community nurses and the effect this has had on other aspects of their work and role. This chapter is an attempt to redress this situation. We report on research that investigates community nurses' experiences of acting as care managers and relate our findings to the literature on care management.
