ABSTRACT

The often irreversible nature of lesions within the vestibular system makes rehabilitation an important therapeutic option. Vestibular disorders are a frequent cause of balance and related gait complaints in the general population.1 In addition, lesions to peripheral and central vestibular structures frequently accompany central neural injury, affecting a patient’s ability to recover from a traumatic brain injury.2 Because of the scope and severity of the problem, interest in the development of rehabilitation programs directed at maximizing compensation for vestibular lesions has grown in recent years.3
