ABSTRACT
This hormone is the most important in the metabolism of calcium. It is a peptide hormone, produced by the parathyroid glands. It is secreted in response to a decrease in serum calcium, and high levels of serum calcium decrease its secretion (a negative feedback loop; see Fig. 88.1).
