ABSTRACT
There is approximately 45 litres of total body water in a healthy 70 kg man. This is split into extracellular and intracellular compartments:
• Intracellular: 30 litres in total • Extracellular: 15 litres in total:
• lymph 1.5 litres • transcellular 1.5 litres • extracellular fluid proper 10 litres • intravascular fluid (plasma) 5 litres.
