ABSTRACT

DCIS is a non-invasive precancerous process. It occurs most commonly in the 40 to 60 year olds and presents with a nipple discharge and/or mass. DCIS is usually unilateral and, if left untreated, proceeds to invasive ductal carcinoma. There is a 25-50 per cent risk of breast cancer at 10-15 years. When DCIS recurs, 50 per cent will be invasive tumours.
