ABSTRACT
Melanin is a water-insoluble polymer. It is synthesized from tyrosine catalysed by tyrosinase. It is found in melanosomes in melanocytes.
Melanin has two roles:
• Skin pigmentation • Absorption of ultraviolet light to prevent skin damage.
