ABSTRACT

Endometrial polyps Friable vascular network. May contain foci of hyperplasia or cancer

Chronic endometritis Inflamed, fragile endometrium associated with IUCD use, pelvic inflammatory disease and retained products of conception

Atrophic endometrium Fragile vascular support provided by thin underlying stroma resulting in superficial petechial haemorrhages and mucosal ulceration

Hormone replacement therapy Unstable endometrium (inadequate progestogenic support). Consider poor compliance, variable gastrointestinal absorption and drug interactions. Increased prevalence of polyps

Coagulation defects/anticoagulation Propensity to bleeding from endometrial (e.g. warfarin) vessels
