ABSTRACT

The LNG-IUS is likely to be less effective in treating menorrhagia arising from recognizable organic pathology such as fibroids (especially submucous), adenomyosis and diffuse myometrial hypertrophy (resulting in a large cavity). However, some women with these conditions may benefit from treatment. These are normally women requiring future fertility, but with poor health-related quality of life because of menorrhagia refractory to standard medical treatments.
