ABSTRACT
Pain is a common and often severe symptom of chronic neurological disease. This is a brief survey of current thinking about definition, classification, pathophysiology and treatment.
Confusion may arise with this definition. Formerly, NP denoted pain related to peripheral neuropathies, and central pain lesions of the central nervous system causing pain. Neurogenic pain embraced all causes, both peripheral and central, and is a term still used.
