ABSTRACT
Whether on the ward or in a higher dependency area it is often difficult to assess the surgical site, especially within the abdomen. However, it is the surgical team’s responsibility to ensure that there is appropriate monitoring and a management plan. This includes all components of the surgical site, including wound management and plans for drains, stomas or fistulae.
