ABSTRACT

The human genome has now been sequenced; however, the functions of the proteins encoded by the vast majority of these genes remain a mystery. Use of animal models, particularly using transgenic and gene targeted mice, combined with genetics, functional genomics, and analytical tools such as imaging and physiology, provides a multidisciplinary approach loosely termed genomic physiology that allows one to determine protein function and dissect (patho)biological pathways in mammals in vivo.
