ABSTRACT
INTRODUCTION Individuals entering or considering application to a pre-registration nursing programme in higher education need to be aware that as well as embarking on a nursing career they are also preparing to become members of a profession. In practice, this means that one learns nursing within the framework and standards published by the regulatory body, the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC, 2004a).
