Aggressive papillary middle-ear tumor is a distinct entity with a propensity for local and intracranial invasion and bone destruction, but the lesions do not metastasize. The tumor affects young and middle-aged adults (aged 26-55 years), and is usually asymptomatic, though it may present with hearing loss, tinnitus, facial weakness, otitis or vertigo. There is an association with von Hippel-Lindau disease.
