ABSTRACT

Arteries of the cerebral circulation join at the base of brain as the circle of Willis (Fig. 7.1). Circulation to the anterior brain is from the ICA, and its intracranial portion commences in the carotid canal at the base of skull (Fig. 7.2). There are connections between branches of the ICA and ECA (Fig. 7.3). Circulation to the posterior brain is from the vertebral arteries and basilar artery (Fig. 7.4).
