ABSTRACT

Atherosclerosis is not as common in these arteries as at other sites. Disease usually involves their origins and can be demonstrated by duplex scanning in more than 90 per cent of patients. There are nonatherosclerotic arterial diseases that have characteristic ultrasound features. Duplex scanning may be sufficient to detect disease, plan for interventional treatment and follow the results of treatment, but it is frequently used to select patients for other imaging techniques.
