ABSTRACT
Some vascular surgeons use duplex scanning before final closure immediately after completing carotid endarterectomy or infrainguinal vein bypass to detect technical problems causing haemodynamic abnormalities such as flaps, kinks, a twisted graft, retained valves after in situ bypass, or residual stenosis. Reintervention occurs in at least 5 per cent of operations.
