ABSTRACT

Macroglossia (primary form) is defined as a resting tongue

which protrudes beyond the teeth, or in the case of the

neonate, the alveolar ridge.1 Pseudo-macroglossia arises when

the tongue itself is normal, but relative protrusion occurs

because of a small mandible, as is seen in Down syndrome

or in PierreRobin syndrome (see Chapter 25, Pierre Robin Sequence).2
