ABSTRACT

Benign and malignant liver tumors in infants are being

detected perinatally with increasing frequency using ultra-

sound. The spectrum of such pathologic masses in newborns

and infants is different from that in older children (see Fig.

86.1). With advances in the understanding of the biology of

these tumors over the last decade, the approach to their

treatment has also evolved. This chapter aims to describe the

current and evolving approaches to the management of the

most common benign and malignant liver tumors occurring

in newborns (see Table 86.1).
