ACUTE NON-INVASIVE VENTILATION IN NEUROMUSCULAR DISEASE

As cohorts of neuromuscular patients tend contain heterogeneous groups at different stages of the natural history of the conditions it is not surprising that there have been few systematic or randomized studies of acute non-invasive ventilation (NIV). The logic to use NIV to reduce the need for intubation, ICU and hospital stay is just as valid as in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients though.
