ABSTRACT

The type of contraception offered to this patient will depend on her needs, her perceived ability to comply with the method and any contraindications. The range of options available includes barrier methods, the combined oral contraceptive pill, the progestogen-only contraceptive pill, intrauterine contraceptive devices and sterilisation. Each of these methods must be considered within the context of its advantages, potential complications or disadvantages and the anticipated problems in this young woman, especially those of compliance and suitability.
