ABSTRACT

Early stage disease is associated with a better prognosis. This is one of the most important prognostic factors in this patient. If the carcinoma has invaded less than 50 per cent of the myometrium, then it is early stage and the prognosis is considered to be good. Extension to the cervix, invasion of blood vessels and spread to other pelvic structures, the liver or chest are poor prognostic factors. Stage I disease has the best prognosis, whereas stage IV disease has the worse. The 5-year survival for stage I disease is 86 per cent and this falls to 16 per cent for stage IV.
