ABSTRACT

Working and living on an island is truly a unique experience. The remoteness, even if only by a moderate ferry ride such as the journey to Martha’s Vineyard or Nantucket, causes a stronger sense of community, which can be good simply because people look out for each other and pool resources when the going gets tough. Those who live on islands seem to take a keener interest in fellow islander’s affairs, but this can be challenging for those with high-profile clients who are trying to maintain their privacy. For all the inspiration being surrounded by water brings to people’s lives, it also creates additional challenges to basic necessities that those who live on the mainland take for granted.
