ABSTRACT

One of the most urgent needs of modern engineering is the improvement of technological methods to improve performance, durability and longevity of components of friction pairs, as well as reducing the power loss due to friction in them. This requires a detailed accounting of factors affecting the magnitude of the interaction of dissimilar materials, and the factors influencing directly the adhesion strength. Knowledge of these factors makes it possible already in the technological preparation stage to select the most appropriate study materials, coatings, and to predict their longevity. In connection with this the main purpose of current research in the field of surface science is the development of methods of analytical description of the friction process, based on the laws of physics, chemistry, mechanics, and development on the basis of these laws of calculation methodologies of the adhesion characteristics.
