ABSTRACT

In recent years, there has been a rapidly increasing concern on how human activities affect the environment by loss of the biodiversity and thinning of the stratospheric ozone, as well as climate changes and consumption of natural resources. The term sustainable development was introduced in the final report of the Brundtland Commission (World Commission on Environment and Development (WCED)) in 1987, where sustainable development was defined as “development that meets the needs of the present without comprising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.”
