ABSTRACT

Migratory fi shes are among the most interesting types of fi shes because they are known to travel long distances for purposes of feeding or reproduction. However, the mechanisms by which these fi shes begin these remarkable migrations have often diffi cult to determine. Diadromous fi shes such as salmon and anguillid eels are well known for their migrations in the ocean and freshwater, and a variety of other types of fi shes also show distinct migration during their life histories.
