Polymer nanocomposites based on nanosilicon

To create new polymeric materials with useful properties based on nc-Si: sunscreen films and coatings, photoluminescent and electroluminescent composites (Kumar, 2008; Olkhov et al, 2010; Bagratashvili et al, 2005; Koch, 2009), light-fast dyes (Ischenko et al, 2010), an important synthetic task is to embed these nanoparticles in the polymer matrix. In the simplest case, the role of the polymer matrix is reduced to ensure that the necessary physical and mechanical properties of the composite (mechanical strength, flexibility, adhesion to the substrate, protection against aggressive media, etc.) are achieved. In addition, the matrix should prevent the agglutination of the nanoparticles and should create suitable conditions for the uniform distribution of nc-Si in the volume of the sample or its fixation on the surface. Finally, if the matrix itself has special optical, conductive and photovoltaic properties, the addition of the functional properties of nc-Si particles will produce a material with a complex of new features.
