ABSTRACT

The phase transformations in solids most important from the theoretical and practical point of view of are polymorphic transformation in iron and its alloys and constitute the fundamental basis for heat treatment of steel and alloys – hardening, thermomechanical treatment, hardening of steel due to ageing of martensite, processing based on the use of the plasticity induced by the martensitic transformation (‘trip-effect’), treatment with the effects associated with transformation superplasticity, ‘memory’, phase hardening and others.
