ABSTRACT

Alkaline phosphatase isoenzymes (API) differ in terms of their biochemical properties, anatomic sites of production, and immunoreactivities with different antibodies. In the first section of this chapter, the various types of alkaline phosphatases (AP) are analyzed, with particular emphasis on the placental form. In the second portion of this discussion, the various applications of polyclonal and monoclonal anti-AP reagents are reviewed.
