Hypertension is a disorder characterized by increased blood pressure. According to Kearny et al. (2005), in 2000 26.4% of the adult population had hypertension, which represented 972 million people, 333 million in developed countries and 639 in developing countries. By 2025 the hypertension prevalence of predicted to increase by about 60% until reaching 1.56 billion people. Hypertension is spreading at an alarming rate in developing economies such as India and China.
