ABSTRACT

Radiation therapy (RT) occupies an important position in the treatment of cancer. It was not long after the discovery of x-rays that the potential benefits of radiation in the treatment of patients with cancer began to be realized (1). Currently, RT is used as either definitive therapy or as an adjunct to surgery and/or chemotherapy in the treatment of tumors arising in almost every organ system. In addition, RT offers cancer patients an effective means of palliation when cure is not possible.
